OK youve had it easy up till now.
You arent going to be racing around on your own.
Its a race, there are other drivers out there and its up to you to beat them. Simple as that.
So how are you going to do that?
Well the first thing to understand is that youre not going to get anywhere in a race if youre not aware of the competition around you.
To do this youll need to rely on your spotter.
Hell let you know whats going on around you using the pit radio system.
Indy racing cars arent like youre average SUV,
you dont have a lot of all round vision so you arent going to see much of whats going on behind you.
Besides if youre not focusing on whats ahead of you, you arent going to win,
worst still you wont see if another car spins and before you know it, BAM! Youre out of the race.

Accidents occur all the time in IndyCar Series racing.
Because theres no room for error out there when youre running wheel-to-wheel three cars wide at over two hundred miles per hour!
So listen to your spotter, hes your extra eyes and ears.
If he says car low then believe him and dont swing across to the left even if you cant see your opponent.

There are a couple of other things to be aware of when racing,
first up is drafting.
Remember that when youre drafting your car has less air to travel through so it can travel faster.
Drafting is the best way for you to overtake an opponent.
Just make sure that you build up enough speed before attempting the final maneuver because as soon as you pull out from behind the car youre drafting
youre back into clean air.
Wow, that was a great maneuver!
This guy used the momentum of the first overtaking maneuver to catch up and then overtake the lead car.
That was some nice driving.
Now IndyCar Series racing is highly competitive but that doesnt mean we dont respect each other.
This isnt stock car racing where you can swap paint with the other cars,
you arent going to last long with that sort of driving.
Look at the car on the left.
Hes got the inside line so the guy on the outside will have to go around him.
The inside car currently has the advantage as the inside line is the shorter way through the turn.
By positioning your car like this youll be forcing your opponents to look for other ways around you
while you can concentrate on keeping your speed up.
OK lets recap.
Listen to your spotter via the pit radio system and be aware of the other cars.
Keep your eyes on the road and plan what your next move is through the traffic up ahead,
using drafting wherever possible to increase your speed.
And when youre in the lead make sure you take the fastest line,
stay in the groove and let the other drivers worry about how theyre going to get past you.
Right, its time we put you out there with some competition.
Your going to be placed mid-pack with only a few laps of the race left to run.
I want you to try and finish as high as you can.
You need to finish in a higher position than you start in to pass.
So you need to overtake at least one car and maintain that position.
Now that youre in a real race situation you need to be careful and aware of the other cars.
Listen to your pit radio and do not cause an accident.
OK you ready? Sit tight, here we go!
Well you sure hung on in there. That gets you the bronze.
Some good overtaking there, well done. Silver.
You blew them away, that was an amazing drive! That earns you the gold.
A performance like that isnt going to get you anywhere fast. Hang in there, youll get it!
